NOTES & QUOTES

I'm often asked for advice on writing business plans, so I'd like to share with you the one thing you need to know: "Tell a Simple Story in a Compelling Way!"

Of course your business is complex, but your business plan should not be. If you cannot summarize your business in a few sentences, you aren't ready for investors. A business plan should never be more than 30 pages long... and then only if you do a thorough job of covering all the bases (like a 5-year budget!).

Shakespear said it best...

"An honest tale speeds best being plainly told."

- Shakespeare
(Richard III)

PERSONAL INFORMATION

davidweb.jpg (2069 bytes) David T. Worrell

An accomplished entrepreneur, author and consultant, David specializes in helping emerging companies solve tough financial and strategic issues.

Worrell is a graduate of The Ohio State University, the Sandler Sales Institute, and the E. M. Kauffman Foundation's FastTrack Entrepreneur Training program. He was twice recognized by DeLoitte & Touche as a "Fast 50" award recipient.

He has taught international business planning within the top-10 ranked MBA program at the Fisher Graduate School of International Business, in Monterey, California, and has helped dozens of entrepreneurs design, build and finance their companies.

Above all, however, Worrell is an entrepreneur. His first company, InfoQuest! International, Inc., is a telecom ASP and e-marketing company that he sold in 1999 to a Silicon Valley competitor. Subsequently, Worrell founded Monterey Venture Partners, a venture consultancy and early stage venture capital firm in Monterey California, which served the venture capital needs of fast-paced startups from 1999 to 2003. Worrell is now back in business with his brother Jim at Pharma Services Network.

In between entreprenuerial endeavors, Worrell has served as Director of Coporate Development for The Chicago Tokyo Group, K.K., a Japan-based healthcare business advisory firm -- his second stint with the company after spending 1991-1993 in CTG's Tokyo office.

Worrell is a regular contributor to the "Raising Money" section of Entrepreneur Magazine. David and his wife live in Charlotte, North Carolina.
